What is the Memory Quilt?

The Memory Quilt is a virtual patchwork of images submitted by patients, loved ones, staff and volunteers at St Richard’s Hospice.

Each piece of artwork will represent the theme ‘An Ordinary Day in Lockdown’.

We hope the quilt will offer a fascinating insight into what an ordinary day in lockdown looks like for others, while capturing memories from this unprecedented time.

How do I get involved?

We’re asking you to create a piece of artwork, or take a photograph, representing an ordinary day for you in lockdown.

This could be anything, from a picture of your makeshift ‘working-from-home’ office – to a painting representing how you are feeling. You could use paint, textile, collage, line drawing or photography – set your imagination free, and have some fun!

Then, email a photograph of your creation to us, along with your name and a caption, describing the work. We’ll ‘stitch’ it together with others to create a virtual quilt on our website.

Please keep your work safe, as we would love to create a physical quilt using all the pieces once we are able to get-together again.

Information for taking part

Before you get started, please read our guide to submitting your work below.

Artwork specifications

  • Please create a square piece of artwork, using a 21cm x 21cm piece of paper or cloth, or taking a photograph using the 1:1 aspect ratio on your mobile phone’s camera
  • When taking photographs of your work, make sure it is on a flat surface with good lighting so the picture is clear. Take care to include the whole piece in the frame. A good way to do this is to hold the camera directly above your work.

We want our Memory Quilt to be enjoyed by everyone. We welcome your creativity however we reserve the right not to publish any work we deem unsuitable.

Email artwork to [email protected] including your name and a caption describing the work, and the inspiration behind it.

Important:

By submitting your artwork, you give permission for St Richard’s Hospice to publish it on its website. Your work may also be shared on the hospice’s social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Please confirm in your email if you give St Richard’s permission to use your full name on its website alongside your artwork.

You can read the St Richard’s Privacy Policy here www.strichards.org.uk/about/privacy-policy which has details on how to have your personal data removed from its website if you wish.
